1. Always use a plant saucer

A plant saucer catches excess water that drains from your plant, preventing it from soaking into and damaging the basket. Excess water can cause mould, mildew, and rot, both for your plant roots and the basket material. A saucer acts as a barrier, keeping your plant and basket dry and healthy. Please water your plant outside the basket to ensure the basket remains undamaged by excess water.

2. Protect your basket with a sealant before bathroom placement

Baskets are a fantastic addition to any bathroom, providing both functionality and style. However, the high humidity and frequent moisture in bathrooms can pose a risk to your beautiful baskets. Bathrooms are prone to splashes and high humidity, which can cause baskets to warp, weaken, or develop mould and mildew. Sealing your baskets creates a protective barrier against moisture, ensuring they remain sturdy and durable.

3. Dust regularly to maintain the beauty of your baskets.

Over time, dust can accumulate on their surfaces, causing them to look dull and dirty. A feather duster or a clean, dry natural bristle paintbrush is the best way to remove dust from a basket. Or use the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner with a nylon stocking placed over the end. 4. Avoid placing your basket in direct sunlight for extended periods.

Sunlight can cause fading and make the basket brittle over time. Keep it in a shaded area to preserve its colour and strength for longer.

5. For deep cleaning

Dampen a white 100% cotton cloth (cotton baby diapers work well), very slightly with clean, cold water and blot gently; then let the basket air dry completely. It’s important to ensure no moisture is left behind when cleaning wicker baskets, as it can lead to mould or mildew growth.
